Project Overview
Client: UNG - Designed Systems Course
Timeline: 3 Weeks (Fall 2024)
Product: 2 Physical Packages, Packaging Carrier, Product Labels, Logo Redesign
Betty Crocker's Cake Mix is a product that we see on the shelves of every grocery store. With simple ingredients and clear instructions, the rectangular box is a classic go-to for easy and convenient baking. In my final semester project, we were tasked with developing unique packaging for an item of choice. In addition to this, we had to redesign the logo, create labels and a container for the packaging all while maintaining a minimalist style. With three weeks to formulate and execute the packaging from idea to product, there was a lot of trial and error. However, after countless test prints and helpful critiques from peers, the final product was formalized, combining functionality with aesthetics.

Logo Design
The current Betty Crocker logo features a cursive typeface. In my redesign, I wanted to elevate the logo in a way that still preserves the elegance of the former. The rebranded logo features hand-drawn calligraphy that mimics the fluidity of piped frosting. The result is a dynamic, expressive logo that feels refined and contemporary.

Packaging Die-Cut
The die-cut was designed in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. It features two separate die-cuts, one serving as the removable sleeve, and the other as the product holder.
The packaging was printed on high-quality matte paper for a clean appearance. The paper was then hand-cut using a ruler and a sharp X-ACTO knife for precision. Afterwards, the folding lines were scored to create crisp folded edges. Once constructed, the box was lined with chipboard to reinforce the structure.

Label
The label incorporates the soft scallop edges of the outer packaging, creating a cohesive visual system. The composition is intentionally simple to keep information clear, legible, and easy to interpret at a glance.
